Introduction

The department of public health dentistry aims to provide preventive, promotive, and curative services at affordable and accessible oral health care to improve the oral health status of the community, especially for the needy population. In order to achieve this goal, the department is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure in terms of teaching, learning, and practice of dental public health. The department has well-experienced faculty members who are at par with national and international standards to train both graduate and post-graduate students.

Mission

History of BDS and MDS Curriculum

The BDS program in Public Health Dentistry at M.R. Ambedkar Dental College incorporates a robust curriculum that integrates clinical and preventive care with community outreach. The MDS program offers specialized training in public health dentistry, focusing on epidemiology, research, and health policy development. Over the years, both programs have evolved to meet contemporary public health challenges.

The department is actively engaged in 06 to 08 ongoing research projects and focusing on various aspects of public health dentistry, including oral health policy and epidemiology.

USP in Clinical Practice

The department’s unique selling point in clinical practice is its emphasis on preventive dentistry combined with extensive community outreach programmes. It conducts Tobacco Counselling, regular dental camps in coordination NGOs, health education programs, and oral screenings, particularly in underserved rural and urban areas participating in all the government projects.

Departmental Achievements

The Department of Public Health Dentistry has earned recognition for its research contributions, innovative outreach programs, and its role in fostering community health. Notably, it has earned the Smt. M. Susheela Best Outreach Program Conducted in an Isolated Rural Area Award.
