Department of Periodontology

Periodontics is the speciality that deals with the diseases of the supporting tissues of the tooth and prevention of their occurrence. It also manages aesthetic problems caused by lost periodontal structures and aims to restore the same. An extensive understanding of the progression of periodontal diseases gives us the edge while predicting the prognosis of affected teeth as the success of the dental treatment plan is heavily dependent on the health of the Periodontium. Hence, the role of a Periodontist is indispensable to dental practice!

The Department of Periodontics was started in the year 1987 with the B.D.S program. M.D.S. course was started in the year 1992.Our department has been offering the MDS program for the past 27 years…The department admits 6 students/ year into the post graduate program. Clinical training includes non surgical and surgical periodontal therapy with focus on regenerative and periodontal plastic surgeries, dental implants, ridge augmentation, sinus augmentation procedures and laser assisted periodontal surgery. The course is designed such that the graduating Periodontist is equipped well with both knowledge and skills to embark on their journey and embrace the ever changing field of dentistry.  Interdisciplinary Periodontics with focus on Periodontally accelerated osteogenic orthodontics, Endodontic -Periodontic interactions and Periodontic- Prosthodontic interrelationships are regularly conducted to enhance the knowledge of the student on a particular topic. Continuing education programs are regularly conducted by the department for the faculty and students.
