Currently, there are 4 MDS students specializing in Oral Medicine and Radiology at the department.
The department is actively engaged in 11 ongoing research projects in the area of oral medicine and radiology and forensic odontology.
The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology has gained recognition for its research contributions, innovative outreach programs, and commitment to community health through initiatives like free cancer screening and imaging. With one of the highest OPD in Bangalore, the department exemplifies excellence in diagnosis and meticulous patient management.
The postgraduate students of the department have won various prizes and accolades at numerous national and international conferences and also ranks at the university level. The department has several CDE programs and Hands on workshops to its credit. Numerous research projects are undertaken under Rajiv Gandhi University, RGUHS grants, and ICMR grants, further advancing academic and clinical knowledge. The faculty are highly proficient and skilled, excelling in both teaching and clinical practice.
The department has a dedicated team of 6 teaching faculty, including professors, associate professors, and assistant professors.
There are 14 non-teaching staff members, who play a key role in supporting the operations of the department.
In the last year, the department has produced 11 publications in the field of Oral medicine and Radiology.
The department conducted 8 Continuing Dental Education (CDE) programs in the last academic year (2023-24).
This two-day program featured lectures on the first day covering topics such as establishing a forensic odontology department—opportunities and challenges, dental age estimation, disaster victim identification in the Indian scenario , and crime scene management in India scenario. The second day included three hands-on workshops focused on dental age estimation, disaster victim identification, and crime scene management.

The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, in collaboration with Public Health Dentistry, conducted a CDE program at M. R. Ambedkar Dental College on 15th February 2023. Dr. Priya Mohan, delivered a lecture on Introduction to oral cancer and “Time to redefine the role of dental health professionals: Implications for cancer control in India”, highlighting its prevalence in India and emphasizing the crucial role of dental colleges and dentists in early diagnosis and treatment to reduce the societal burden. The event saw active participation from 110 attendees.

A series of programs were conducted covering key topics in dental healthcare. Sessions on Management of Medications in Dental Settings, patient safety goals, and pharmacovigilance featured expert lectures, a poster competition on “Patient safety Practices”, and a CPR mock drill. With active participation from 65 attendees.
The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, M. R. Ambedkar Dental College and Hospital, Bangalore, conducted a CDE program on December 1, 2023, titled “Navigating the Future: Dental Radiography Simulator – Workshop for Modern Practitioners.” With 100 participants, the event featured lectures by Mr. Aiden Jeon and Dr. Shanth Kumar Dara on dental radiography simulators. Attendees gained insights into simulator applications, followed by a hands-on workshop demonstrating their benefits and limitations in preclinical settings. The program enhanced understanding of simulators’ advantages in both clinical practice and institutional training.
The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, in collaboration with Public Health Dentistry and Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, conducted a CDE program on “Cancer Diagnosis – Early Detection to Save Lives” on February 7, 2024, at M. R. Ambedkar Dental College, Bangalore, with 250 participants. Dr. Hemavathi Srinivasan discussed breast and cervical cancer, emphasizing screening, self-examination, and vaccination. Dr. Pradeep Kumar K.N highlighted tobacco-associated lesions and early diagnosis. A cancer screening camp was conducted for staff and students with specialists from Bangalore Medical College. The program concluded with active participation and valuable insights.
The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, in collaboration with GDCRI, GDCRI Alumni Association, and IAOMR-KSB, conducted a CDE program on May 8, 2024, at M.R. Ambedkar Dental College to celebrate Dr. B.K. Venkataraman’s Birth Centenary with 150 participants and live streaming for overseas delegates. The event featured speeches honouring Dr. Venkataraman, followed by lectures by Dr. Shivakumar B.R. on “Basics of Autoimmune Disorders- Medical Perspective” and Dr. Srinivas K. on “Impact of Autoimmune Disorders On Oral Health”. Various events like collage, creative models and quiz were organised for the student participants who took part with great enthusiasm and prizes were distributed for winners of all the events. The program concluded on a good note with all the delegates inspired by the fond memory of Dr. B. K. Venkataraman sir.
The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, in collaboration with Public Health Dentistry, conducted a CDE program on “Building ADR Reporting Culture for Patient Safety” on September 18, 2024, at M. R. Ambedkar Dental College, Bangalore, with 110 participants as part of National Pharmacovigilance Week. Speakers Dr. Faseeh K.M and Dr. Nivedita Gadiyar discussed ADR reporting awareness and adverse drug events in clinical trials. Afternoon sessions covered ADR detection, prevention, and hospital management. The program concluded successfully with active participation from all members and valuable insights.
