Periodontics is the specialty of dentistry that deals with the diseases of the supporting tissues of  teeth and prevention of their occurrence. It also deals with the management of aesthetic problems caused by the loss of periodontal structures and aims at restoration of the lost structures.As the success of a dental treatment plan is heavily dependent on the health of the periodontium,an extensive understanding of the progression of periodontal diseases gives Periodontistsan edge while predicting the prognosis of affected teeth. Hence, the role of a Periodontist is indispensable to a dental practice.

Department comprises of experienced doctors with a vast plethora of experience with specialists in the field of periodontal immunology, genetics, periodontal plastic surgery, Implantology and laser dentistry.

TEACHING PROGRAMMES: –

Undergraduate teaching programme:

Undergraduates are trained over two years (through the 3rd and 4th years of their BDS degrees) with basic pre-clinical work and concurrently trained clinically by providing case scenarios with an individualized mentor for every student.

Post graduate teaching programme: 

The post-graduate course in the Department of Periodontology was started in the year 1992-93, with the current intake being 6 per year.
